Decorate a home in white

It might not be practical for me to decorate my home in white, but I long for the day when there's no more dust and the kids have moved out...! This beautiful home is decorated in white from top to bottom, showing that it is possible to have a beautiful white home.

This is the morning sitting room, it's the first port of call for their teenager kids go to in the morning. They curl up on the couch to watch TV. The morning sun streams through the windows to greet you, it's such a lovely spot. The french doors open onto a deck patio area.

Natural elements such as a comfy rattan chair and table, rattan mirror frame, coir rug and bamboo blinds emphasise the fresh look of this space and keep it cosy and welcoming.

The morning sitting room is situated in a large, open plan room that also accommodates a dining area and the kitchen.

The casual dining area is situated on one side of the central kitchen, on the other side is the morning sitting area. The space is used for special occasions as well as every day meals.

The top of the built in unit with open shelves was a lucky secondhand find. The seller was only selling the top part which was the exact width for our countertop. It came with glass doors on each side (centre being open), which we removed so we could replace the glass with wire... but never got around to it.

A new coat of paint, new crown moulding and voila!

The cabinet doors and drawers under the cabinet were given a light sanding before being painted with Plascon Velvaglo in a crisp, brilliant white and satin sheen. We also included a mini wine fridge into the space which can always be removed, you could always add doors for more of a dresser look.

In between doing other rooms in the home, the owners decided to change out the overhead cupboard doors in the kitchen. Not happy with the original glass and aluminium doors, they had SupaWood doors made and painted them with Plascon Velvaglo white.

The kitchen was done on a super tight budget, so the owners are extremely happy with how it looks.

In this gorgeous white bathroom, plantation shutters not only look good - they provide security as well. Manufactured from aluminium each shutter is equipped with secure stainless steel locks with a solid metal 2-way bolting system.

As with the kitchen cabinets, SupaWood doors were made and painted with Plascon Velvaglo white. It cost the same to make all of the doors and drawer fronts as it was to buy a single ready-made door...! So for all you DIYers - you can save a lot of money! As for the time, the doors were made in an afternoon and fitted for any adjustments that night.
