Revamp Old Mirror

Don't throw out an old, scratched mirror when you can touch it up with Rust-Oleum Mirror Effect spray and then add a dash of glam with glass mosaic pebbles. When you look at the price of a new mirror, vamping up an old one is worth the cost.

Secondhand shops, online classifieds such as www.gumtree.co.za, www.bidorbuy.co.za, www.olx.co.za and pawn shops are a great place to pick up great bargains. You can easily pick up an old dressing table with fitted mirror at a price lower than what it would to buy the mirror brand new.

YOU WILL NEED:

Old mirror
Rust-Oleum Mirror Effect spray*
Glass mosaic pebbles
Pattex 100% repair gel
Duct tape
Picture hanging wire

*You will find the full range of Rust-Oleum products at your local Builders store.

HERE'S HOW:

1. If the mirror is badly scratched at the back, spray on a couple of coats of Rust-Oleum Mirror Effect spray. Shake the can well before use and cover the surrounding area with newspaper to protect from overspray. The Rust-Oleum Mirror Effect spray will make any scratches less visible.

2. Pattex 100% repair gel is ideal for use on mirrors. Place a bead of repair gel around the outside of the front frame to secure glass mosaic beads around the edge. Leave the glue to set overnight.

3. To mount the mirror you can use a small piece of picture hanging wire wrapped in duct tape and glued to the back of the mirror using Pattex 100% repair gel. Make the strip fairly long so that a larger surface area can be glued onto the back to support the weight of the mirror.

GOOD TO KNOW
This method is not recommended for large mirrors or mirrors of thick glass.
