Etch a design onto a glass vase

When you use etching cream on glass, the result is a permanent, washable finish. The etching cream eats into the surface of glass and leaves behind an 'etched' finish. You will find etching cream at craft, art and hobby stores.

Before you use etching cream you need to first clean the glass thoroughly and make sure it is dry, then cut out self-adhesive vinyl masks for your design. Masks are used to create a negative area to protect the surface from being etched. In this project we added stripes, dots and a monogram letter.

 

 

Use a craft hole punch to punch out a circle, or a craft knife and cutting mat. Trace your letter in the middle of the punched circle of contact paper and cut out. Use your craft knife to help you peel the circle - simply slip the blade tip between the

Follow the instructions for your particular brand of etching cream. The product is normally applied liberally with a brush. Make sure that you cover all the areas that aren't covered by vinyl. If you miss any spots you will see this in the final result.

Leave the etching cream on for the required amount of time and then use the tip of your craft knife to peel off the vinyl.
