Create an eye-catching feature above your bar trolley with this decorative mirror feature that will outshine any celebration. It is quick and easy to make, and you will only need a few supplies that you can purchase at ant Builders stores countrywide. From start to finish, this project should only take about 30 minutes tops!

This project is sooooo easy and perhaps you already have items lying around the house that you can use to make this decorative mirror. While it looks great above a bar cart, it would also look good as part of your Christmas decor, adding some bling to the occasion.

YOU WILL NEED:

Scrap piece of cardboard

Circular mirror to fit the size you want**

Circular template - plate of something similar

Shower curtain rings - or something similar

Ice cream or craft sticks

Flat washers or similar - small mirror disks would be great if you can find them

Picture hanger

Rust-Oleum metallic spray paint - silver, gold, or copper

Newspaper or drop cloth

** Determine the size of the decorative frame based on the size of the circular mirror you are able to find unless you have a mirror cut to the size you want.

Priced from around R75, Builders offer a selection of circular mirrors both framed and frameless that would be ideal for this project. If you want a specific size for your decorative mirror, a glass and mirror supplier will be able to cut the mirror to your exact size or shape.

TOOLS:

Scissors

Hot glue gun

Pencil

HERE'S HOW:

Step 1

Draw out a circle for the size of the decorative mirror and cut this out neatly with a pair of scissors. Make sure that the edges are clean.

Step 2

Before using a hot glue gun to secure the ice cream sticks around the cardboard circle, position these around the circle at equal distances. Also, make sure that they will be enough space on the sticks to attach [2] shower rings. Once you are sure everything is in the right position, stick them down one by one using hot glue.

Step 3

Use your hot glue gun to secure the clear shower rings onto the sticks. You don't need to use a lot of hot glue, just a blob at the top and bottom for each shower ring.

Step 4

Stick on the flat washers in the middle of each shower curtain ring, as shown below.

Step 5

Cover your worktop in newspaper before shaking the can and spraying the completed frame with Rust-Oleum metallic spray paint. Shake the can repeatedly as you work. Apply a single coat and let this dry for an hour or so before spraying on a second coat. Do the spraying indoors, as spraying in sunlight may cause the paint finish to be sticky.

Step 6

Using your hot glue gun, place the circular mirror in the exact centre and glue in place. You are done! Now you can glue a picture hanger on the back and mount the decorative mirror on a wall. For even more impact, make a second mirror that is slightly smaller and mount this underneath.
