Fun with pom-poms

Pom-poms are so easy to make and you can use colourful yarns to create a wide range of holiday and decor accessories.

With the festive season around the corner, we thought it might be nice to start off with a project or three to decorate your home for the holidays. Avid knitters will no doubt have more than a few scraps of yarn lying around, but if you don't - ask around your friends and family to see what you can collect.

How to make extra large pom-poms

Some projects require pom-poms a bit larger than the norm, and this is a quick and easy way to make larger pom-poms.

Simply wrap your yarn around two empty cardboard toilet roll holders.

The more you wrap - the fluffier your pom-pom will be. Try out a couple of practice runs beforehand so you know how many times you need to wrap. Once wrapped, use a length of yarn to tie off down the centre.

It must be tight to hold everything together and then you can snip both side of the yarn and fluff up the pom-pom.

Trim the shape with sharp scissors.

How to make teeny pom-poms

Colourful pom-poms are an inexpensive way to add a fun element to your home decor. You don't need special skills to make pom-poms and you can make them in a variety of sizes.

Pom-poms are an easy and affordable way to dress up plain cushions for a splash of colour and fun. Choose colours already used in a room to bring together a cohesive look.
