With the current situation in South Africa, many of us are forced to look at alternative and more affordable ways to decorate our home this year. It would be nice to go shopping for whatever we like, but times are tough, and inflation is taking a BIG bite out of our monthly income. If you don't already have a Dremel Multitool in your tool box or workshop, investing in one will allow you to get creative and make decor and decorations at a fraction of what they would cost in the store and still have a handy tool that can be used to do so many tasks in and around the home.

In November 2022, Popular Mechanics undertook to test Dremel's Multitool against 3 competitors in the multitool market and the results show that the Dremel 4300 and Dremel 8250 are the top tools worldwide for corded and battery-operated multitools.

Why spend a fortune on cheap, plastic decorations when you can use piece of scrap wood and make festive decorations that will last a lifetime. Crafting with a Dremel Multitool might look difficult but you would be surprised at how easy it is. When guys and gals attended my DIY-Divas workshops, those attending were blown away by the ease of use and quickly discovered the many uses for these tools. Even if you don't know how, there are plenty of online tutorials that will guide you step-by-step through the process. Plus, we have a section that focuses only on crafts with Dremel tools.

Using a Dremel to carve decorations for the Christmas tree or to display around the home is a creative and fun way to improve your skills and who knows, it may end up being a hobby you can use to bring in extra income.

Turn scrap wood into charming Christmas decor using a Dremel Multitool and paint. It is hard to find something like this in stores and it has the added benefit of being made with wood and not plastic.

What could be more affordable than making your own holiday decorations and festive decor for a home. Some timber merchants have a scrap bin where you can pick up small pieces of assorted woods for very little cost, or perhaps you know someone who does woodworking for a hobby, and they will give you their offcuts of wood.

Baubles for the Christmas tree never seem to last long when you have children and/or pets in the home. When they drop off the tree or are close enough to grab, it isn't long before they get used as toys. Most baubles these days are plastic, which we all know is not good, but rather than throw out those old, damaged baubles, get crafty with your Dremel and give them a new look and a new purpose as table decor.

Dremel Multitools might be compact and lightweight in size, but don't let than fool you. With over 30,000 rpm of power, these small tools are powerful enough for so many tasks and projects. This Christmas, craft a candle holder as a centrepiece for the dining table or to place on a shelf or mantel. Made from a few pieces of pine and copper pipe, both of which you can buy at Builders, this one-of-a-kind decoration will look stunning when lit up in the evenings during the festive season.

If you do buy copper pipe to make the candle holder, keep all the scrap pieces as these will come in very handy for making napkin rings for the dining table. Clamp and cut the pipe in short lengths using your Dremel and then place these on a support and beat with a ball-peen hammer to achieve the hammered effect. You will find more inspiration here on Etsy.
