Decorate a wooden spoon with wood burning

Christmas is only a few months away and we're going to be showing our DIY Kids various craft projects to make gifts for mom, dad or other family members. In this project we are using a Dremel VersaTip soldering iron to burn lovely designs onto a wooden spoon.

This project is not recommended for children under the ages of 12, and should be done under adult supervision.

You will need:

Wooden spoon
Dremel VersaTip soldering iron
Pencil
400-grit sandpaper

Here's how:

1. Draw the design

Use a pencil to draw a nice design onto the spoon. Don't make it too difficult - a few pretty flowers and dots with squiggly lines will look good once you have finished.

2. Burn into the wood

Hold the VersaTip firmly in your hand, making sure that the air valve on the tip is pointing away from the top of the wood.

Gently apply pressure to the surface of the spoon to burn the design into the wood.

NEVER PUT THE SOLDERING IRON DOWN ON A SURFACE - IF YOU DON'T HAVE A STAND FOR YOUR SOLDERING IRON - MAKE SURE THAT THE TIP IF NOT IN CONTACT WITH ANYTHING.

3. Continue to add designs

Follow your pencilled design until finish and then lightly sand the spoon with 400-grit sandpaper.
